Insect Pests Online
This online course was designed with new food safety employees, production workers and maintenance staff in mind. The curriculum reviews insect biology. Stored product insects including the granary weevil, rice weevil, lesser grain borer, angoumois grain moth, indian meal moth, cigarette and drugstore beetles, red and confused flour beetles, sawtoothed, merchant, flat grain and rusty grain beetles, cadelle and dermistid beetles are covered. Food plant insects including cockroaches, flies, ants, silverfish, psocids, ground and carabid beetles, centipedes, millipedes, sowbugs/pillbugs, crickets, and spiders are also covered, as are control methods for these pests. These topics are followed by a self-check quiz and a final exam.
Lectures are presented as HTML presentations. Compatible with any browser, students can use the HTML presentation to read the course at their own pace. Additional content is also available to students for use in this course. Documents are available as Adobe Acrobat PDF files.
Enrollments are accepted at any time. There are no fixed starting dates. Once you have enrolled you are given 60 days to complete the course. Students who receive a 70% or above on the final exam will receive a document of completion and .8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
